Cycora by AmberCycle

Founded by Moby Ahmed and Shay Sethi, AmberCycle has finally released it’s highly anticipated new material known as, cycora. The brand states, “our mission is to overcome the limitations of current recycling processes in order to stop valuable materials from ending up in landfills.” AmberCycle focuses mostly on polyester as 51.5% of this material is used in the apparel industry globally. In total about 73% of clothing in general is either landfilled or incinerated.

AmberCycle didn’t create cycora alone as they partnered with LA based designers, Madeleine Lyon and Jody Lee. Lyon described the clothing designs as, “easy to wear, easy to make and easy to take apart again.” Most of the brand's knitwear is made using a 3D pattern ultimately creating zero waste in the design process. The actual fabric is made by using landfill destined waste and turning that into plastic polyester pellets, which is then spun into yarn and brought to LA and made into garments.

This process of closing the loop guarantees a circular life cycle of clothing. AmberCycle designs clothes with “end of life” in mind and are actively changing what the word ‘waste’ means. Read more about cycora and shop their styles here.
