Mushroom 'Leather'
This is the latest in the area of 'Bioprocesses' and 'Biocouture': A vegan leather made entirely from mushrooms. It is a skin that is extracted from the mushroom hat and is processed similar to animal skin. However chemical free methods have been used in comparison to the traditional 'tanning'. It is described as 'leather for vegans'. The material resembles suede and is biodegradable, breathable and water repellent. It's been manufactured in Italy by company Grado Zero Espace. Similar to MYX, a Danish company that fuses commercial mushroom production waste with hemp or linen fibers to create a durable and flexible material. pics: ecouterre
