Bolt Threads First Bioengineered Necktie

The San Francisco-based biotech company, Bolt Threads, has just released the first product of their biospun spider silk fiber. After seven years of research and development, the lab grown fiber, made of spidroin protein from fermented corn syrup, closely mimics natural silk. The design of the world's first spider silk necktie represents the molecular structure of the protein from which it is built. A limited edition of 50 knit ties will be launching at SXSW on March 11th. This product is just one step in a long journey ahead of Bolt Threads.
